
With the Covid-19 lockdowns hitting manufacturing output on an unprecedented scale, many firms are considering diversifying their supply chains away from China – adopting the China Plus One strategy. ASEAN appears to be an attractive relocation destination for many reasons, including the region’s extensive integration into both global and regional value chains. Yet this raises the question of whether the
region as a whole will benefit equitably, and if this might lead to convergence or divergence between the Member States.
How do we see individual countries reacting to the wave of firm relocations? What are the long-term prospects for ASEAN integration? This online discussion plans to deliberate on these topical issues from the perspective of different ASEAN nations, and present a framework for public debate.
